Hymenoptera is diverse group of insects that includes bees, wasps, sawflies and ants, with around 7000 British species, although the majority of these are wasps (see our wasp photos here). The bees make up a relatively small proportion of Hymenoptera, with an estimated 214 bee species currently recorded in mainland Britain.
